19-year-old Stafford County Fire Dept. employee charged with murder in infant son's death

A 19-year-old is behind bars after allegedly killing his 3-month-old son, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said.

On Friday, deputies responded to Richland Road for a medical emergency. Upon arrival, officials located an unresponsive 3-month-old boy.

The child was transported to a nearby hospital where he was ultimately pronounced dead.

After an investigation detectives charged the child’s father, Dallas Bowling, with second-degree murder and felony child abuse.

Bowling, an employee with Stafford County Fire and Rescue, was reportedly put on administrative leave following news of his arrest.

The fire department sent 7News the following statement:

"Stafford County Fire and Rescue is aware of the serious allegations of second-degree murder and felony child abuse against an employee of the department. The allegations do not reflect the values of the department, which all members are expected to uphold. The employee has been placed on Administrative Leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Stafford County Fire and Rescue is fully cooperating with the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Further questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office."

Bowling is being held without bond as detectives continue to investigate the incident.
