ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities in Blair County say an Altoona man is behind bars after he reportedly shot a woman following a domestic-related argument.
According to the affidavit, police were dispatched Monday evening to a residence along Logan Avenue, in Altoona, for reports of a woman with a gunshot wound to her toe.
Police say the male on scene, identified as 30-year-old Jordon Havlin, was reportedly "uncooperative" with officers and claimed that the woman had been shot by an unknown male who was "no longer at the residence."
Authorities say when police asked for a description of the "unknown male," Havlin reportedly responded by telling officers, "I'm not a rat" and "I plead the fifth."
Police say Havlin was then taken into custody and was found to be in possession of various drugs and narcotics, including methamphetamine.
Authorities say the victim initially told officers that she had shot herself in the foot, while Havlin continued to claim that a "third-party" individual was responsible for the shooting.
Upon further investigation, police learned that the couple had reportedly been engaged in a verbal argument, just prior to the shooting.
Police say the victim later told officers that during the argument, Havlin had gone to the upstairs of the residence and retrieved a silver-colored "six shooter."
Authorities say the victim stated that Havlin "tends to resort to handling firearms when he is upset," further explaining that he "finds solace in guns as a means of calming himself down."
Police say that as the argument reportedly "died down," Havlin allegedly got up from the bed, walked to a nearby closet and reportedly pointed the gun towards the floor.
Investigators say it was only then that the victim realized that a shot had been fired and the bullet actually struck her foot, "nearly severing her toe."
Police say officers obtained multiple search warrants for the residence, leading to the discovery of a cache of weapons and other firearms-related items.
Authorities say police seized various ammunition, as well as a rifle, a shotgun, a .44 caliber magnum (which was used in the shooting) and three ballistic vests.
Police noted that the vests were reportedly personalized with the words "police" and "police officer" on them.
Upon further searches, police say they discovered various "explosive-making" materials, as well as a "defused" hand grenade.
Authorities say officers also found a box containing 15 bottles of anabolic steroids and syringes.
According to online court records, Havlin was arraigned Tuesday morning on a variety of charges, including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
He is being held at the Blair County Prison on $100,000 bail.
