WASHINGTON (TND) — A billionaire reportedly donated $10,000 to a GoFundMe account that was set up for a teenage girl from Missouri who is in critical condition after another girl repeatedly slammed her head into the ground.
The New York Post noted Bill Ackman made the contribution to the GoFundMe for 16-year-old Kaylee Gain. The media outlet said it confirmed the donation with a spokesperson for Pershing Square Capital Management, L.P.
The crowdfunding account, which was launched on Wednesday, shows the hedge funder as one of the top donors. As of Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET, a total of more than $305,000 already poured in from nearly 7,000 donors.
Every Donation, big or small, will go directly towards easing these stressful days, allowing Kaylee's family to be able to be there 100% for her day and night and help with the medical bills that they foresee," according to the account."The account also noted Kaylee is being treated at an area hospital for a skull fracture and frontal lobe damage. It noted she also suffered major brain bleeding and swelling.
The 15-year-old suspect is being held in family court and faces assault charges.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is calling for the suspect to be charged and tried as an adult, rather than as a juvenile.
This evil and complete disregard for human life has no place in Missouri, or anywhere. I am praying for the victim. The criminal should be charged and tried as an adult. If the victim dies, that offense should rise to a homicide," he wrote in a post on X, which is the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.Democratic congressional candidate and St. Louis County prosecutor Wesley Bell said the incident is heartbreaking, but it is a matter for the juvenile courts to decide.
This is sickening & so difficult to watch. In MO, by law our office @stlcopa has no jurisdiction. This is a Juvenile court matter, unless it is certified...& by law, certification is not our decision either. We pray the victim makes a full recovery. This is just heartbreaking," Bell said on X in a reply to the controversial "Libs of TikTok" account. As for the GoFundMe account, the creator has thanked everyone for their outpouring of support.
"The overwhelming response from friends, family, and the community has already brought the family to tears," according to the account. "They offer everyone their deepest gratitude. Thank you for coming together for them in this time of need."
