Kroger gets approval for at-home COVID-19 tests

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WKRC) - Kroger is announcing it is among the first to receive emergency use authorization for a COVID-19 test taken at home.

People cannot walk in and buy the test off the shelf. They must have a prescription and get them online through the Little Clinic.

The at-home tests are part of a partnership with Gravity Diagnostics based in Covington, Kentucky. Gravity Diagnostics analyzes up to seven thousand COVID-19 tests a day for patients around the country.

With a prescription, a patient goes online and agrees to confidential reporting portal terms and sort out the symptoms. If the symptoms are serious, the patient might be directed to the nearest emergency room.

If they're mild, the patient will submit benefit information from the employer.

Once the request is approved, a test with a swab is sent within about 48 hours.

The patient will consult with a telehealth professional for guidance on performing the test. They'll ship the test to Gravity Diagnostics which should have results in about 48 hours.

Patients will learn about negative results by email or text. They'll be called for a follow up if the results are positive.
