Local tattoo shop raises money for family in need

Total Commitment Tattooing in Johnstown was packed Saturday with people making some very permanent decisions.

But the ink didn't just change their lives. It made a difference for a local family in need.

The tattoo shop held its annual Tats for That event, and all of the money made Saturday went to the Lawrey family this year.

At just 3 days old, Easton Lawrey began to have seizures and suffered a pediatric stroke, causing major, long-term health complications.

"The biggest thing is mainly traveling back and forth to Pittsburgh. Easton stays out in Pittsburgh a lot, so we stay at the Ronald McDonald House, and that helps pay for my stay to be closer to him," said his mother Kayla Lawrey.

"He has a lot of issues. He has seizures, breathing issues, a feeding tube. Just a bunch of other stuff, too," said Kayla Lawrey.

The money raised will help the family with medical and travel expenses to find a cure for Easton Lawrey's seizures. Now 2 years old, the next step is for him to have brain surgery.

"It's sad, but they're such a strong family. John and Kayla are so strong for Easton, and it's amazing to see how great they do with him," said Lynn Kimmell, a tattoo artist.
