Man convicted of 2009 Altoona murders found dead in prison

A Johnstown man who was serving a life sentence at SCI Albion in Erie County for killing two Blair County Residents in 2009 committed suicide, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Corrections officers found 39-year-old Nicholas Horner unresponsive in his jail cell just before 2 a.m. Saturday while they were conducting routine checks of all the cell blocks, according to a release from the DOC.

Horner was taken to the infirmary where medical personnel tried to revive him. Authorities say he was pronounced dead just after 2:30 a.m.

Authorities say Horner was found guilty of killing two people and wounding another in a 2009 shooting in Altoona and was sentenced to life in prison.
