Open house scheduled for historic hotel in Jefferson County

PUNXSUTAWNEY - For the past several years, a hotel in Jefferson County has sat empty and for sale.

Now, officials are hoping an open house at the historic Pantall Hotel will help find an investor to bring back business to the area.

In 2013, the hotel closed for renovations but never reopened, taking away foot traffic from downtown Punxsutawney.

"Since the Pantall closed about three years ago, we've seen a real decline in traffic coming in to town because it brought in a lot of people for the restaurants," said Don Powell of Powell & Associates Real Estate, LLC.

"It's real important that we get it up and running again."

The 129-year-old hotel has 64 bedrooms, two bars, a rooftop ballroom and a coach room, which use to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It's a business the director of the Punxstuawney Area Chamber of Commerce, Patrick Fleckenstein, said is needed.

"It generates commerce for us, it puts people on the streets and it brings people here to stay in downtown," Fleckenstein said.

The open house is scheduled for April 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 135 East Mahoning Street.

The asking price is $1.5 million, but offers are welcome. For more information, contact Powell at 814-938-3031.
