MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minneapolis police officer responding to a shooting call was ambushed and killed Thursday when he stopped to provide aid to a man who appeared to be a victim. That man instead wound up shooting the officer, authorities said.
The death of Officer Jamal Mitchell happened during a chaotic situation involving two crime scenes two blocks apart that left three people dead, two others hospitalized in critical condition and another officer and a firefighter with less serious injuries.

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A district court in Utah recommended the release of Ruby Franke, known for her '8 Passengers' YouTube channel, who was charged with six counts of second-degree felony child abuse, pending trial.
A public safety assessment report suggested Franke's release before trial with restrictions, including monthly check-ins by phone. As of Wednesday, both Franke and her business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, remained in custody at Washington County Jail but in separate areas.

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — Nearly two years after her death, the family of Anna Moriah "Mo" Wilson filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her convicted killer, Kaitlin Armstrong.
Armstrong is currently serving a 90-year prison sentence for the murder of 25-year-old Wilson.
"When you shot Moriah in the heart, you shot me in the heart," said Karen Wilson when addressing Armstrong, moments after a jury sentenced her to decades in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Services begin at UPMC Ebensburg facility
EBENSBURG, Pa. - The UPMC outpatient center in Ebensburg has opened.
The facility project was announced in January of 2017 and brings both UPMC family practice and specialty care physicians and outpatient testing and therapy services to Cambria County.
Cambria Township engineer Jack Schaffer said he signed off on the final inspection Tuesday, and the facility opened Wednesday.
He said some general maintenance, like cleaning up debris, filling cracks in pavement and street-sweeping, needs to be completed.
