New PA Safe Access office helps patients receive medical marijuana

HUNTINGDON – A new office in Huntingdon County is helping people take the proper steps to receive medical marijuana. It comes after Gov. Tom Wolf signed the “Medical Marijuana Act" into law early last year. It's been a long time coming but the Pennsylvania Safe Access office is open and can now help patients register with the department of health to potentially receive medical marijuana. State Theater officials still looking to bring IMAX to Johnstown through deed restriction

State theater officials said they are still waiting to see if they are going to be able to negotiate past a deed restriction stopping the IMAX theater plans. In the 1970s county amusements owned the state theater building, and when selling it to Lee Hospital put a restriction on the building that it could not be used to show motion pictures again. That restriction was found earlier this year and now owners of County Amusements, which owns Richland Cinemas, is looking to get paid to potentially take away that restriction according to executive director of the state theater foundation Eric Reighard. First eaglet hatches in PA Farm Country Nest

One of the eaglets in the PA Farm Country Eagle Nest hatched Wednesday morning, the Pennsylvania Game Commission announced. The eggs were laid back in February. The game commission has partnered with HDOnTAP and Comcast Business to provide a live look at the eagles' nest, nuzzled high up in a sycamore tree in Pennsylvania farmland. The Game Commission says at least one of the other eggs is pipping, or beginning to hatch, so we’ll likely see another eaglet Wednesday or Thursday. [Read More]

Inmate, visitor attempted to smuggle drugs into SCI Houtzdale

HOUTZDALE, Pa. - State police are investigating after Department of Corrections officials said a visitor and an inmate were caught smuggling drugs into SCI Houtzdale. According to DOC officials, security staff at SCI Houtzdale saw an inmate place an item in his mouth he had received from a female visitor. As correction officers went to retrieve the inmate he attempted to flee, according to officials. Officials said the inmate was tackled to the ground, but they were unable to recover the item as the inmate swallowed the suspected drugs. [Read More]

Local veterans home recognizes volunteers

The Hollidaysburg Veterans Home honored 24 people and 28 organizations for their contributions Wednesday, thanking those that volunteer their time with veterans. 10 of those people spent more than 100 hours in 2023 with residents, including Volunteer of the Year Pattie Fromknecht, who had a whopping 272 hours. The guest speaker, Retired Brig. Gen. Maureen Weigl, thanked volunteers for their time, talents, and support of veterans. Weigl said, "You being here uplifts them every single time, just seeing that the community of care is there for them; that you didn't forget what they served and what they did to earn that respect, and make sure they're feeling like this is their home. Man breaks into No. 9 Coal Mine, authorities remove him successfully

LANSFORD,CARBON COUNTY(WOLF) — Authorities in Lansford were called to No.9 Coal Mine earlier this morning. A man broke into the mine and refused to come out, stating he was armed. Officials tell us the man spent more than 12 hours in the coal tourist attraction. Authorities tell FOX56 the suspect David Eisenhauer from Carbon County broke into the coal mine around 4am Thursday Morning. Workers noticed signs of a break-in, and smoke coming from the mine. Penn State announces 'indefinite' suspension of fraternity following hazing investigation

University Park, PA (WJAC) — Penn State University officials say the decision was made earlier this week to "indefinitely" suspend the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity following an alleged hazing investigation. University officials say the investigation revealed "widespread and pervasive" hazing that had occurred for several years. Authorities say the fraternity was given an interim suspension in late September and their attempted appeal was denied. The university says the fraternity was previously suspended in 2018, for similar violations, and the most recent investigation showed that the hazing had continued. [Read More]

Food banks are valuable resources in many communities. In State College Tuesday, there was a sizeable donation for the food bank from a regular contributor.
