CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a $1.1 million fine against Equitrans gas company for violations related to the 2022 gas leak at their storage facility in Cambria County.
In early November of 2022, many residents in Jackson Township heard what sounded like a large jet engine nearby.
Officials say that sound was determined to be the venting of natural gas at the Rager Mountain storage site owned and operated by Equitrans Midstream.

Ex-Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster signs 3-year deal with Patriots
According to multiple reports, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide-receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is reportedly signing a three-year deal with the New England Patriots.
The deal is reportedly worth $33 million, with $22.5 million to be paid over the first two years.
Smith-Schuster was considered one of the top free agent receivers heading into this offseason.
JuJu spent the first five years of his career in Pittsburgh before signing a one-year deal with Kansas City where he helped them win the Superbowl this past season.

The remains of the former canal basin in South Fork eventually came into the possession of Benjamin Ruff, the club’s founder and first president, in 1879.
He oversaw the reconstruction of the dam and had taken several shortcuts for the sake of saving money.

New trial date set for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who is accused of killing his wife
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Another trial date has been set for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who is accused of killing his wife several years ago.
Giles was initially scheduled to go to trial in March but the case was delayed as his defense awaited the results of a psychological evaluation.
In May of 2022, police charged Giles with homicide following a three-and-a-half year investigation into the disappearance and death of his wife Nancy.

one man dead after motorcycle accident in Lycoming Co.
One man has been pronounced dead after being thrown from his motorcycle in Clinton Township, Lycoming County, Friday, state police said.
According to a press release, David Nangle, 74, was traveling downhill trying to negotiate a right curve in the road on Route 15 when he struck a guide rail.
State police said Nangle was then thrown from his motorcycle down an embankment.
The press release states that his motorcycle continued to travel down the highway, striking a concrete barrier multiple times, before finally stopping a short distance away in the southbound lane of travel.

Steelers expected to sign veteran DB Desmond King
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to sign veteran defensive-back Desmond King.
King was cut by the Houston Texans on Monday and will provide the Steelers with some additional cornerback depth.
King was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 5th round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
In 95 career games, King has recorded 9 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 7 fumble recoveries, with three total defensive touchdowns.

Hanging Gardens LLC purchases Johnstown property, hopes to create up to 300 jobs
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Johnstown Redevelopment Authority announced that Hanging Gardens LLC has purchased the building they had been renting.
The property sits at 108 Iron Street in Johnstown.
Hanging Gardens entered into a lease agreement with the authority for the same location in 2018, but the authority had owned the property since 2004.
The sale was finalized on Friday.
It will allow for the expansion of Hanging Gardens and will put the property back into taxation.

The Punxsutawney Festival in the Park kicked off last weekend.
Some vendors I spoke with said it took a lot of preparation to avoid the coronavirus.
