With just one week to go until Halloween, and plenty of trick-or-treat events already underway, Pennsylvania State Police is reminding parents to remain vigilant and to always double check their children's candy.
Troopers say there has been a recent uptick in "drug-infused" candy that has been seized by authorities, specifically in the Troop H area of the state, which encompasses the region of Perry, Franklin and Cumberland counties.
Authorities say the "candy" reportedly mimics the packaging of normal candies and is often infused with THC or mushrooms.
Troopers say they do not allege that these candies are "intentionally" given to children, but rather are reminding parents, guardians and teachers to thoroughly check the contents of their child's trick-or-treat bags.
Police say adults should properly inspect the treats to make sure they do not contain any drug-related references on their logos or packaging.
Anyone who may unknowingly ingest any drug-laced items should immediately contact 911.
